Neural Dive is a 2D animated film project. At this stage my goal is to create its teaser to raise funds and support to make the film possible. The movie tells The Story of Julia and her discoveries about the War of the Machines, while she is fighting in this post-apocalyptic world.

Where did it come from?

This project came from two essential things for me: the desire to write, draw and animate, and to let out all that anguish that I feel when I look at where the world is heading. Fruition and relief. Maybe my voice will be one more in the chorus, maybe it will help to give this topic the status of urgent matter, which should be discussed by everyone (since it has a huge impacts in everyone’s life) and by governments around the world. Or maybe not, maybe we are doomed to the terrible fate described in The Universe. Time will tell.

So I had the tools, and this story to tell. Why not give it a try? I believe that something very interesting can come out of this. It will be a lot of work, but it’s something I’ve been willing to do for a while.

The author

Okay, let me introduce myself, the author: my name is Rodolfo Perissé, I was born in Rio de Janeiro, where I’ve lived most of my life, before moving to Tenerife, Spain, and then to Germany, where I live today.

I always drew, drew, painted and drew. I studied Design, but I dropped out on the final project of the course (that didn’t make sense in my life). I wanted to study Painting (Fine Arts), but I thought I wouldn’t have a job the. So I made this terrible choice: Graphic Design. I guess I was always afraid of being unemployed. At least I had the opportunity to study Graphic Design at the School of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro, and I had contact with many disciplines of drawing, painting and history and philosophy of art. I worked in animation, advertising and games studios. I was an animator, concept artist, character design, I made storyboards, and for a good few years I was the art director of some animated TV series. In these studios where I worked, we did projects for companies like Cartoon Network, Netflix and Blizzard. Today I’m working in a game studio and I’m responsible for all the visual part of this project that we’re producing. If you are curious to know more, my linkedin has more details about my career.

Hi everyone!

The project itself

My project consists of developing a teaser for what would be the feature film. Is it audacious? Sure, but what’s life worth without dreaming and taking any risks?

So, I have the story, I did the teaser script (and I’m still working on the the movie one), I’m doing the character designs, concept arts, the animatic, the backgrounds, the animation, I’m editing it, doing effects animations, I’m even trying to compose some music (that’s it’s something I have to study more). As I said before: it’s a lot of work that has to be done. Have I told you that this is not the first version of my project? A lot of things have changed (there are some old versions of things done in Follow What Has Been Done), but now I’m pretty confident that this is the story I want to tell.

“How can you do the teaser before the film itself?” you may be asking. I’m using actual scenes from the movie script in the teaser. So, I’m cheating, but not that much. And you’ve probably watched a lot of movies that have scenes that were only used in the trailer and disappeared from the final version that made it to the cinema. So yeah, I feel more honest than a lot of the big studios out there.
